Loading tool…

This free calculator names how two people are related through the ancestor they share. Pick how far each person sits below that common ancestor and it works out the exact term — including cousins, “removed” degrees, half-relationships, and great-aunts and great-uncles — then draws a personalized chart you can print or share. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type ever leaves your device.

Cousinsshare a common ancestor without either being descended from the other. The cousin number counts the closer person’s distance (first cousins share grandparents, second cousins share great-grandparents). “Removed” counts the generation gap between the two people — your first cousin’s child is your first cousin once removed, not your second cousin. A half relationship means the link runs through a single shared ancestor rather than a couple.

FAQs

How does the relationship calculator work?+

Pick how far each person sits below the ancestor they share — child, grandchild, great-grandchild, and so on. The tool names the exact relationship (including 'removed' degrees and half-relationships) and draws a personalized family chart you can print or share.

Is my family information private?+

Yes. The calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded or stored on our servers.
